Gay Youth groups began to form in the mid 1970’s, but age restrictions for many Pride events limited participation by gay and lesbian youth. In May 1995, the first Youth Pride, a unique festival for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender youth, was staged in Boston attracting 500 participants. Youth Pride Festivals now take place in half
a dozen cities across the country. |
The success of Lesbian Pride, Black Pride and Youth Pride,
has inspired similar Pride celebrations across the country. There have been celebrations
for Asian, Pacific Islander, Latino/Latina, as well as older Gays and Lesbians. There have even been
Pet Pride Celebrations!
